Head Coach Report
Another superb two days of competition last weekend at the County Championships where attention shifted to the Age Group swimmers (14 & Under). There really was improvement everywhere you look. Firstly this year saw us increase the number of age swimmers taking part with 27 swimmers competing (20 in 2017), not only that but they competed in more events with 166 swims (109 in 2017). As if that wasn’t enough there was a whopping 124 PB’s (72% which is excellent).
But wait we’re not done, the swimmers also achieved 55 top 8 placing’s (49 in 2017) as well as more medals 15 (12 in 2017) from nine medallists (4 in 2017)!
Amelia Boyes was the golden girl this weekend, stepping up from last years bronze in the 50 Free to claim the title of Hampshire Champion this year, but not only this as she also picked up a great bronze medal in the 200 Freestyle. Talking of improvement Emily Quick picked up her first individual county medals with a silver in the 100 Backstroke, 0.38 behind the winner, as well as Bronze in the 200 Backstroke. Evie Rowsell also added to her 800 Freestyle bronze to claim silver in the 200 Backstroke, narrowly missing the gold by 0.29sec and not a bad jump from 6th last year. Evie Hall who notably placed 4th in the 200 Backstroke (next years target is a 1, 2, 3 please girls) picked up a super silver in the 50 Freestyle dipping under 29 seconds in the final. Ellen Jewell also got in on the action to claim a great silver in the 100 Backstroke despite being very unwell (she’ll be back next year for more medals).
This year saw our first qualifier from Foundation squad (previously Sharks) in Georgina Taylor who competed well in four events. It was also the first time we had a medallist from Development squad (previously Skills) and not just one. Emelia Evans claimed bronze in the 100 and 200 Fly, Sidney Collingwood won bronze in the 50 Backstroke and Ava Bennell took home bronze in the 50 Breaststroke.
I am incredibly proud of you all, you continue to progress this club back to where it should be! Keep it going, there is more to come next year as well as later in the season at Regionals and Nationals.
